Community operations after launch: the first 90 days

Weekly rhythms for staff, content seeding, quiet forum recovery, member onboarding, and keeping a new community healthy after go-live.

Guide · Published 12 Jun 2026 · 7 min read

Launch day is the beginning of operations, not the finish line. The first ninety days determine whether your forum becomes a habit or a ghost town.

This guide focuses on practical staff rhythms — not vanity metrics — for communities running on ForumForge.

Week 1–2: Be visibly present

Staff should post daily: answer questions, welcome new members, and model the tone you want. Silence from admins signals abandonment.

  • Daily welcome replies in an introductions forum
  • Pinned weekly discussion or prompt thread
  • Fast response in support or Q&A areas
  • Clear announcement when rules or structure change

Week 3–6: Fix structure from real usage

Watch where members actually post. Merge empty forums, rename confusing boards, and tighten permissions if spam or off-topic posts appear.

Month 2: Onboarding and retention

Improve the new member path: where to read rules, where to ask first questions, and what content is worth subscribing to.

If you use clubs, forms, or paid areas, test the journey as a new account monthly.

Month 3: Operational review

Review moderation load, report types, and staff burnout risk. Document what worked, retire experiments that did not, and plan the next content or event cycle.

When to ask for help

If launch stalled because of hosting, permissions, or migration timing, contact ForumForge. Many teams combine this operations guide with our thirty-day launch plan or moderation checklist.
